it has been an interesting weekend. I think the PM now has an opportunity to put pressure on DUP to reform the Assembly, otherwise direct rule could mean a change to NI abortion laws.
As usual the DUP leader has suggested that devolved government has precedence, except there is no active devolved government.

Will the PM dare to challenge the DUP, on whose support they rely?

well ****** its good news for woman in southern Ireland , the catholic church has seen its influence dwindle in the last 20 odd years

and quite right . The North will go the same route ( after Brexit )

Religious leaders ? bigots? have far to much influence in the world, places like Iran , Saudi Arabia. Pakistan, India , or any other country with Stahn in its title (?) are run by these fruit cakes and they should all be kicked out by the scruff of there necks and a**** end of there trousers.

India is not a Stan. Bye far majority Hindu. The rest majority Muslim

I'm pretty sure the majority religious bigots in Ireland are not Muslim.

But the majority of bigots are of course probably religious.

And it doesn't matter which imaginary friend you 'believe' in!

Thought it was great news and about time too. I knew abortion was illegal in Ireland, but I didn't realise that women couldn't even have an abortion from rape. Bloody backwards and very cruel.

Talking of backwards and cruel, there is that part of the UK which bans abortions - even in cases of rape, incest, or when the foetus has no chance of survival !

Which could get interesting because the only thing propping up the government, the DUP (as bigotted as they come), wouldn't countenance a change.

Mayhem is so weak that she probably won't force the issue even though she is coming under pressure to do so.

But if she does....Anyone fancy another general election?

Is transom trying his best to bash Muslims as usual? That lying hater can turn any thread into a Muslim bashing thread. Disgusting horrible (lying) poster.

Let us hope that TM has the balls to confront the DUP's stance.
She has sufficient leverage, but dare she use it?
After all, she only has to insist on a referendum. Let the people decide.
How can the DUP deny that to NI?
Currently it seems a weird situation, NI pregnant women can travel to rUK for an abortion (if they can afford it), or perhaps in the very near future to RoI for the same. Yet they are unable to access the same healthcare in NI.

To preserve the right of an unborn child they would even let the mother die. Unbelievable.
I am not sure that is true, I think that's one of the exceptions to the law at least that's what I'd heard on the voting day news.
Just had a quick look and seems that situation was included in the Protection of life during pregnancy act in 2013. Only 5 years ago

The problem is that the power to call a referendum lies with the NI assembly - but that hasn't sat for nearly 18 months, and there is no immediate likelihood of it reconvening in the near future.

Mayhem could of course impose a new law on NI, however that would probably bring down the 'coalition'...

But as we know, the nasty party always puts their own wish to stay in power at all costs over doing the right thing for the people!

I think the DUP are being very short-sighted about this issue.
It may well come back to bite them big time when the elections come round.

The last time the N.I.assembly had a vote on this issue they voted 3 to 2 against a change in the law.
I wonder if all these supporters of abortion would vote for a law which allowed a 3rd party to target them for 'termination' without their consent.
It is Ironic that those who believe that all human life should be respected are portrayed as backward while those who promote the killing of unborn children as healthcare are portrayed as compassionate and civilised.
The evil Liberal mentality which was responsible for the 1967 act in Britain is the same evil which has overseen the destruction of white Britain as a homogeneous nation, they opened the floodgates of mass immigration and the results are there for all to see.
As you sow ,so shall you reap as the man said.
