recirculating island hoods

Hi,

I heard that recirculating hoods are crap compared to vented ones. But some of these island ones look fantastic costing loads more ie the designish pendant like ones that are recirculating only. Surely these must work properly.
I'm contemplating getting one since there's one on sale. Not sure if i can post links

Does anyone have first hand experience with these?

Wouldn't know about island filter extractors but wall mounted recirculating hoods don't function as well as the vented type. There is also the extra cost of active carbon filters to consider.
At the end of the day "you pay your money take your choice".
