The above TV was working normally, then shutdown the picture and sound, and is now finding it immensely amusing to just sit there and flash the red light on the front panel that is usually on steadily.

Philips Tech Support is shut at this time of night, so any ideas on this one anyone?

dont know if you have had a reply from philips but could indicate tv is intrip mode ie a short has occured and closed down the power supply or settings on philips crt's (the beam current) was a very critical setting backing off a touch may cure

Spoke to Philips - seems likely to be a transformer fault, but they said the behaviour (no pause in the sequence of LED flashing) was extremely rare.

Having a rare fault has made me feel much better about the problem.

I'm gonna open it up and have a poke about. And yes, I'm aware of the EHT anode.

The line output transformer is a poss but while your in there on the front of the line transformer there are two adusters may be just a plstic screw slots one will be marked focus the other marked poss A1 this one just back off anticlockwise just a degree or two and try.
