Afternoon all. This might possibly come under "decorating", but I'll try here first.

Attached is a photo of the plaster coving on my daughter's landing ceiling. To the left of the crack about 600mm of coving is loose, on the right of the crack its still solidly fixed to the wall, and I'm just wondering how to proceed with a repair. As a DIYer without further advice, I'd probably opt for carefully removing the section of coving, then tidying up underneath, applying plasterboard adhesive and putting the loose piece back. However, I'm not confident that it'll come down as one section, nor that adhesive alone will hold what is probably a hefty piece of coving without the support of screws.

Any constructive advice welcome.

I think that will come down in one.
Clean off adhesive.
Buy a box of toupret powder filler.
PVA wall and joints.
Blob filler along coving.
Blob filler in joint.
Stick up.
Couple of nails to support coving under but not through cove.
Clean off filler.
When dry fill around again.
Sand joints smooth.

Damp sponge is handy for cleaning off residue filler

Many thanks for that. Since I wrote my first post, my daughter has asked the decorator who will be doing her hall, stairs and landing if he can fix it, and he’s said yes. I don’t know the chap, but I’ll be impressed if he does the job as thoroughly as you’ve suggested it should be done.

Sticking up is not easy to get adhesive behind and get it to stick well.
I've pulled loads down in a matter of minutes.
Just pops off.
Problem was for years trades used artex or other products to stick coving and it's not strong enough. It was cheaper than proper cove adhesive.
Any decent decorator will fix that
