Reliability of washing machines

Thinking about replacing our old hotpoint washing machine, it's done a sterling job over the last 10 or so years, but was wondering if hotpoint are still considered a reliable brand? If not, who's making the best machines right now? Do not need dryer function or anything fancy, and don't want to spend any more than about £250.
Any experiences?
