Removal of Blown Plaster

From the pics you will see the walls are in a bad way. Is it ok to just keep knocking off the old loose plaster then use pva on those areas or does the whole of the walls need to be stripped? Also the cracks at Ceiling - these gaps go into the loft (nothing behind or above ) so how would I fill those?

Looks like a very bad skim over a painted surface

Given the state of your walls and the level of work that will be required to get a half decent finish , I would reskim them

Either way all loose plaster must be removed
 
not pva..... take the loose stuff off and scrim any suspect original mortar/plaster, any cracks , all the corners, anywhere there may be timbers in the internal walls, around doors, and anywhere on the wall that sounds slightly more hollow than other bits is where they’ll be.
smear gripfill blobs over the tape at close intervals so the tape doesn’t peel off.
next blue grit the whole room generously , preferably with a wide brush and skim next day.
don’t mention it .
