Hi

I wonder if someone can help? I'm planning to remove my canopy garage door (the kind with a long spring at the top of the door). Could I just open the door fully (thereby releasing some tension in the spring) and then cut the cables either side to detach the spring from the rest of the door?

How dangerous would that be assuming I was to wear a motorbike helmt and a load of protective gear ? Is the problem with this DIY "method" that the spring could rapidly uncoil and perhaps hit me?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It will uncoil at about 3000 miles an hour but it has a steel bar running through the middle of it so it won't actually 'ferrr-dinnnngggg' and hit you :D

Its not the done way of doing it though ;)
