I have a staircase that has different shades on the handrail and newels.
The newel is the darker wood, and has been previously treated with oil (see pic below).
I'd like to use a Ronseal woodstain (which has been successful elsewhere) to darken the handrail and match up as near as possible.
So how do I prepare the handrail? Sand right back or some kind of chemical removal?
The woodstsin is water bas.
What can I put over it to make it more durable?
Cheers
