My query is how are UPVC front doors attached to the brickwork?
I am buying a 1930's semi detatched where a UPVC front door has been installed into the archway, we want to remove it and put a front door back into it's original recess. I want to know if we try and do this is the brickwork on the arch going to be damaged by the original installation and look awful?

Depends how it done, it's either frame fixings with a screw cover in the frame or bracket (twist & turn type) behind the frame and hidden by the plaster. Carefully put a crowbar on the centre of the longest length prise it open a little then you should see where the fixings are. Hacksaw blade behind the frame can do it.
