Remove half a slate roof

Hi,

I live in a semi detached with slate roof.

I'm extending my ridge line to cover a side extension and need to take off my roof and put back on.

How do I take off the tiles next to my neighbours so I'm left with a line of stepped tiles.

How do I then tooth back into this?

Some advice would be really appreciated.

You would normally need a slate ripper.
