Hello, I have removed a fitted cupboard but am having problems matching the ceiling finish.
where the cupboard had been, there seemed to be paint peeling off the ceiling. This was very old paint indeed (house is 1950s) it came of very easily and definitly needed to be removed. However, as I was doing this I was using a sander and ended up sanding into the next layer, which was about 1 to 2 mm of something that came off like white powder. I thought this was a skim or possibly the first coat of the plaster board. I ended up taking this off and was left with a grey shiny surface.
I thought if i sanded down the paint mark around the outline of the cupboard (where people had painted up to it before) that i would be able to blend the 2 together.
I did some sanding and some paintng, but it has not blended in. mainly because of the texture. I now think that the rest of the room may have had some sort of paper covering before it was painted. This would explain the texture of the room ceiling. I also now have some of this paper that has a large bubble in it where it has taken the paint.
Sorry, for the long post, but i dont know what to do about this now. Ideally i am looking for a DIY sollution, but i may consider getting it skimmed.
I was wondering if it would be worth making the area a bit larger by cutting with a stanly and scraping, then trying to fit some lining paper and somehow blend this in.
The size of this is about 4ft by 2ft (it was a boxed in chimney).
Apreciate this may be difficult to advise without seeing it. it does not photo very well.
