I recently converted to gas and have removed the oil boiler. The cable that brought it power comes through living room floor cavity and out a vent to the bolier. Once i have disconnected it how should i deal with it? Junction box or Simply tape it up and stuff it back under suspended floor? There is no seperate fuse in the consumer unit so is assume it is on d/stairs ring main?

Also the thermostat controller will be removed, should i do the same with this? (i.e. JB or tape up and hide it in floor cavity?) I assume there is a safer way.

ps. exposed floor boards so access no sweat.

Is there any power on it now? Was it a supply for a timer/programmer or did it go only to the boiler? In the latter case its other end will be dangling where some old programmer or junction box once lived.

There is no seperate fuse in the consumer unit so is assume it is on d/stairs ring main?

If it does have permanent power, why not test this assumption by turning off the ring. If it is a spur off the ring and it's 2.5 sq mm cable you could put a single socket on the end of it. That would be a lot more use than a junction box.

Also the thermostat controller will be removed

Do you mean a thermostat or a controller? A thermostat would have been wired back to some controller or junction box just like the boiler. A controller is the thing that is most likely to have had a permanent supply and it might still be connected. You need to investigate further.

cheers furrball for your hasty reply.

Heres a better description.

The controller, (not thermo, sorry) is mounted on the living room wall. Outside the wall is the boiler house in the back yard.

The controller has 3 cables going into a fuse box then into it.

There is a conduit appearing at the boiler and it comes out of the vent of suspended floor. It has two cables inside which are connected to a double light switch. A flex from the double light switch then ran to the boiler.
I am pretty sure they are all on the ring main.

Hi i'm no electrician but i am a plumber!

Sounds like from what you have said you have:

A switched fuse which is part of the ring main (2 cables) plus one cable which comes from the fuse to the programmer.

If you remove the fuse then you should be able to isolate all the power to the electric's ( eg pump, programmer, boiler, room stat etc) So remove the load L N and earth from the switched fuse then all other cables are obsolete. If you wish you could then change the switch fuse front for a socket.

Obviously you could do with testing before you do anything.

but your new gas biloer will need a supply and stat, why not use what iis there?

Thanks breezer and sambotc and space cat, got it sorted.

Frankly i did what i should have done before posting and lifted a few floor boards and to my surprise a 3 way jb took a single cable spur off to the fuse. the further 2 Cables then went ffrom controller to boiler. as they were all in one conduit i got a little confused thinking the whole lot was in series as part of ring.

Simple as remove spur and pull the rest out.

Cheers again, oh and do you reckon there is qany point trying to sell oil boiler? the boiler is pretty old but the burner is in good nick ch pump and ancillaries too.
