Nearly every room in the house has a wallpapered ceiling. Turns out the previous owner has applied paper onto what looks liks the backing paper of woodchip paper. Took several hours to remove but I now need some advice.

The ceiling is in reasonable condition. I was considering getting it skimmed but a think decent paint job should leave a good finish. Having removed the paper the ceiling now has left over waste residue. Is there a technique to prepare the ceiling for painting?

If you intend to paint straight over the plaster you will need to remove all old paste residue.A much easier way (providing you can wallpaper) would be to give it good sanding, size the plaster, let dry, then lining paper.Over paint in chosen colour.

Do not really want to put anymore paper on the ceilings. Is there no way of getting all residue off.

Hot soapy water broad-bladed scrapper, lots'n' lots of elbow grease, believe me easier to line it

Wait for pro-deccys later, they may provide you with a better answer.Iam only DIY.

I would sand away an residue using a d/a connected to a dust extractor.

Lining ceilings is very, very easy to do on your own.

All other papers are difficult by comparison.

Cost wise- plastering will only be a bit more expensive so it might be a better option if you don't mind waiting for the plaster to dry.
