Peeling layers of wallpaper from plasterboard. What I'm left with is a surface that is covered in small flakes of paint. Perhaps the first coat that was applied to the plasterboard before it was ever wallpapered.

How to prepare the surface for painting?

Am I going to need to apply liner paper?

Or can anyone think of a way to remove the flakes of paint without damaging the paper surface of the plasterboard? And the prepare the surface somehow.

If the paint is contract (non vinyl) emulsion then you may be able to wash it off with warm water, dont soak it too much though or you'l damage the surface of the board.

Try using a scraper once its wet to scrape it away...gently

After all thats done you may well need to line it with 800/1000 grade paper, make sure you size it first though
