We have a mid stairs light with a two way (bot stairs/top stairs) switch system. These switches also operate the lower hall light - all are connected via a multi terminal junction box.
I want to remove the lower hall light from this so that the switches are only for the stairs and then put in a new seperate light/switch for the lower hall.
To do this do i just remove the hall lighting cable from the junction box or is it more complex than this?

I will add the new hall light/switch by looping in from an exisiting rose close by.

should easy enough provided there is just one cable to the hall light

but always label anything you remove so you can put it back if you have problems.
