Hi
I wish to remove the wall that is under our stairs.
We currently have a cupboard at the end of the stairs, with a wall filling in the rest of the space towards the foot of the stairs.

From a bit of investigation from looking in side the cupboard, it looks like the wall is cast concrete with plaster over it to make it flush with the closed string on the outside. The wall continues at 90 degrees to make the cupboard. The wall I want to remove is on top of the parallel floorboards, 90 degrees to the joists underneath. I have looked under the floorboards and no walls are under the floor level.

Can I remove this wall? Am I right in thinking that this wall is just to fill in the space and should not be supporting the stairs?

The holes shown in the wall are where the plaster has come away, cracked where it meets the closed string and where the skirting board has been hit too many times with the vacuum cleaner

Providing that the string mortice & tennon at the top & bottom are into the newel posts and both are supported all the way down to the floor level, then it's shouldn't be a problem
