Some "master craftsmen" used some sort of Bitumin and adhesive when installing a conservatory many years ago at my property

I took it down about 10 years ago and used brick cleaner and wire brush (which was probably the wrong thing to do) to try to clean up the bricks

I'd like to have another go at removing the staining again.. Any suggestions on how to go about it.. What to buy? Chances of success to remove what these idiots did?

Use products like tar solve first.
Use a stiff paint brush and small wire brush.
Get what you can off but don't damage bricks.

You have 2 options.
I think I would try this first.
Get some matching bricks.
Drill loads of hole to make dust.
Buy waterproof PVA from DIY and thin 50/50. Must be waterproof PVA so it don't liven back up like cheap building PVA.
Dab on stains.
When it gets sticky put some brick dust on card and blow on bricks.
It will stick to PVA.
I've done many times to patch bricks.

Just for interest and not what I think you should do, watch this guy.
Brilliant for bigger repairs and will show show you what can be done.
It's possible you could make a mix and brush on but I think the PVA and brick dust trick is what you should go with.
