Removing dial from Honeywell Thermostat

Hi, as above, I have the old style Honeywell Room Thermostat (brown and beige) and have attempted to remove the cover to see what wiring is there before changing to a wireless stat, so far in spite of pulling and tugging at the dial, and getting a screwdriver behind it I can't shift it, is there a special way of removing the dial to get the cover off. Phil
p.s I have attached a picture of the offending stat.

As I recall there's a little push in release thingy on one of the sides.
