Hi all. I have some left over engineered oak boards left over from a flooring project and would like to use them for a wall cladding project. I’d like to try and ebonise the oak finish using vinegar and wire wool solution. First though I will presumably need to remove the factory finish on the boards. Does anyone have any tips on breaking down the finish ideally without sanding? I was hoping it could be wire wool’d with some sort of home made solution to take it back to a point where I can try the ebonising process.
Any advice greatly received!

Cabinet scraper, or better still something like a #80 scraper. With either you need to learn how to condition the edge (not too difficult)
