I have recently opened up between the kitchen and dining room, which involved knocking through part of the rear cavity wall of our 1920's two up two down terrace.
In doing so I discovered that the cavity was filled to approx. 200-400mm above floor level of loose mortar, which must have fallen in during the original construction. I removed as much as I could reach from the rear elevation wall, however I assume that the same defect is repeated throughout.
Does anyone know of any methods to remove the said muck from the remainder of the house cavity? I am thinking of getting cavity wall insulation. However with the muck still in the cavity, I am concerned I will end up with a damp problem.
Thanks, Chris
