Removing nut on old towel radiator

Hi “again again”

Spoke too soon. We have a leak on the right valve. (Discharge)

Picture attached. It’s emanating from the lower union, which I only secured while loosening/tightening the tail nuts.

Have turned water off and run taps, but water obviously seeping from rad.

What’s odd is a) didn’t tighten or loosen that nut. However, can see visible thread, so must have somehow loosened it when removing old and positioning new rad?

Any advice/steps to mitigate? (I can contact plumber friend but not until Monday)

Regards

Using correctly sized spanner or a good fit from adjustable spanner, give that nut a slight tightening while holding the valve body with a pair of grips. That might seal the drip, but nothing is certain with old installations. If that fails, then it's a drain down job and the joint remade with a smear of a good jointing compound to ensure a good joint twixt olive and valve body. Looking at the valve, it would be a good idea to replace with a new one if you are draining down, but that's just my idea.

If it's too tight then sometime it's better to back the nut off half a turn before tightening again, allows the compression fitting to re-settle properly.
