Removing plastic enamel

I am undertaking a restoration project on some old toys. Some have been repainted using plastic enamels over the self coloured plastic. Can anyone tell me if there is a way of removing the enamel without damaging the plastic underneath. Thanks.

Something like Mr Muscle oven cleaner is whats used to strip paint off models, just test a bit on the plastic first.
