Removing Polyfilla from wood detailing

I am stripping a door frame of many coats of gloss and have found that some bright spark has tried to fill the detailing on a complicated door frame with a filler of some sort to make it smooth.

Removing this with a scraper is dmaging the wood. Ideas?

You could try making it wet & giving it a scrub.

These work well, there is also a version which looks like a wire brush but uses abrasive fibre tails.
