We've got some custom made Douglas Fir skirting boards to match the existing ones in the house and one of the latest batch has 2 sections on the rear of one board which have leaked sap onto the front of the board stacked below it. Is there a way to remove this without damaging the wood?

We are not painting over them and hence any damage would be obvious.
