Hi:

A friend placed a metal pan, which had been sitting inside a barbecue grill, directly on a gold-colored polyester tablecloth. When we lifted the pan several hours later, there were black soot marks on the tablecloth. We pre-soaked the tablecloth in oxyclean and also tried a concentrate of stain remover that you can pretreat carpets with. We washed in warm water, using a store brand detergent with color-fast clorox bleach. The stains remain. Any other advice?

Thank you.

New Table Cloth?

To be serious, Soot is a NIGHTMARE to remove but you could try some of these...

Nah, I think this tablecloth is circa 1970-ish! The tablecloth is a sentimental favorite of one of my friends, so I am trying to clean it for her. I will try the overnight soak in detergent and water, and will add some color-fast bleach for good measure.

Thanks again.
