Removing tap surrounds?

I have these chrome damaged taps I’m wanting to replace. The bath is beside the wall so I cannot get underneath to the rear of the taps.

Question is: can I unscrew and remove these chrome surrounds without getting underneath or will I need access to the nut? And even if I did would it losen the tap to a point I cannot re tighten it?
