A while ago I had a new front door fitted and moved rearward to its original position.

The original porch which has now been exposed to the elements again had plaster over the original render although in some places this has come away.

I need to tidy this up and planned to key the plaster and skim it over with render but is this the right way to do it or is there a better way?

Hi, I just did something similar with mine. I used a 6mm cement board this one Hardie Backer 6mm then rendered over it. I'm a tiler not a renderer so found it a bit easier to do.

Now there's an option I hadn't considered! I'll take a look at that although trying not to add too much thickness if I can
