I'm using a 'H' beam above byfolding doors in a solid brick wall 200mm thick. The exterior will be rendered. What is the detail for allowing render to be used? How to i attach mesh etc to the RSJ so that it can be rendered with the rest of the wall? a picture/diagram would be great!

Kind Regards

You could cut and fit noggins of 4 X 2 timber to the web of the steel ensuring a tight fit and then fix the mesh to the noggins.

what distance apart should the noggins be? how should the mesh be fixed?
should the mesh be transfer round the underside of the beam to allow for render there aswell?

The noggins can be placed at about 300mmm apart for a nice firm surface and fixed with either galvanised fencing staples (the small 'u' shaped ones) or galvanised clout nails and it would be better wrapped around the base and fixed both sides if you wish to render the base of the beam.
