Erhm maybe so....but the fire risck assesor requested a coat of 25mm render. I have pva it. A friend asked me to put a product called bitocontact a kind of resin with grit...but I cant find it in any of my suppliers!!

This sounds ridiculous to me!
Surely the render will expand and blow as soon as it is heated by a fire!!!

you will get bonding agent any were m8 but as you say you already pva,d id carry on with that,knock up a 5/1/1 s/c/lime with a large dose of pva in the mix,pva the ceiling wait to tack up then a tight coat then stippel,let this dry properly then scratch and top as per using pva as your admix
The point of fire ratings is not that the material won't blow etc but how long it takes before it stops being protective.
I have to agree with the lads and say it seems a bit odd. Obviously 25mm of render must give the required rating, and there must be a table of ratings to show this.
Is it outside or partly outside?
Could it be that the fire officer is suggesting render because it is an external application rather than because it gives the best rating? The suggestions of firelined boards make sense but would have to be sealed up for external use or would degrade and lose their rating.
Glasroc, fermacell , cement boards or similar might be better if the officer knew that they could be used outside.
A big factor is the area. A large rendered ceiling at 25mm has a fair bit of weight on it (20m2 over half a ton depending on whatever key you have put there. If it gets wet/absorbs moisture you can be talking more with 1 litre water = 1kg .
Also the area obviously affects your cost effectiveness . Are we talikng a lobby here or a drive through entrance?

I know what you mean, I've been there often enough - but am not really missing the point. His spec obviously did not tell him how to key it( so an incomplete spec) or he would not be posting , finding out why you have to do things is as important as finding out how, if you want to learn!
