Morning all

Need some urgent advice. I'm having the whole of my house rendered beginning on coming Wednesday. My builder is sub contracting out to another guy. So that I can quiz him correctly before he starts, can you give me some advice on which additives he should add to the render before applying please?

I happened to be in Wickes yesterday and saw more types than I expected. I live in Hertfordshire. Weather today is rain, but I'm hoping that its not going to become too cold.

The options they had at Wickes are:
- Frost proofer and rapid harderner
- Mortar plasticiser
- Waterproofer
- Waterproofer & retarder

Given its external, a waterproofer seems a sensible.

Do I need a frost proofer in current weather?

And does plasticiser make mortar too smooth? I want a smooth finish but not smooth like internal plastering else I fear the wall lights will highlight any imperfections.

All walls will be painted in due course.

Thanks vm..

Waterproofer and morticiser should do the job,,,
