Rendering inside of planters?

Hi - I planned to render 3” down the inside of my planters (angle bead up top, drip/stop at bottom) - below that, the DPM will begin. Ive been told by someone yest that you should never render both sides of a dense block, regardless of whether it’s only a few inches out of a 3 block high planter.

Did they give you any specific reason not to render both sides?
I've seen concrete block garden walls rendered and pebble dashed on both sides in the past.
 
Hi! Just that it stops it breathing. Feels daft considering that a retaining wall that’s rendered on one side would surely be much worse!

I would do what you want to do. 3" down on a 3 course block is not going to do any lasting damage as far as I can see.
