rendering turns to dust

need some advice .when doing a bit of cement rendering sometimes when it sets the finish becomes dusty and dead like. i always use plastering sand with a 4 to 1 mix with some waterproofer .like i say it doesnt always do it . c ould it be the plasteriser i heard it can weaken itany advice cheers
 
Your problem is that render sets by chemical reaction - yours is setting by drying out BEFORE the chemical reaction takes place. Make sure you keep it damp until it cures. :wink:
