Renewal of Photo Driving Licence

Hi all,

I have just received a form from the dvla to renew my photo driving licence. My question is do I have to renew it at a charge of £20 or can I just keep driving using my "old" green licence I received in the 80's. I cannot for the life of me remember why I got a photo one , but it was probably because I travelled in Europe a fair bit in the early noughties & thought it would be easier. Either that or when I got caught speeding

As far as I'm aware when you get a photo licence it supersedes the green paper one. If you don't have a photo one and your details haven't changed then you are legally allowed to carry on with the original. So I think you will have to pay this glorified tax to be able to carry on driving

I thought as much but could not find any facts on the DVLA website.

yep, in theory you should have submitted your old green paper one when you got your new photocard one, unfortuntaly you will have to shell out to get a new photo, on the bright side its cheaper than a passport renewal
