I received an old Black & Decker Workmate free via Gumtree. It's usable but the handles have both broken. Does anyone have any idea how I could effect a repair? There are small holes through the diameter of the handle as shown in the photographs - they go all the way through. Can the old handle stubs be removed?

The old handles can be removed by drifting out the roll pin thats just visible in the top pic - but it may be stubborn!
If these are the original die cast alloy handles, it could be possible to pop rivet some sort of extension on, and form a handle using a longish bolt.
John :)

you can normally punch the roller pins out with a nail with end flattened
its normally the jaws that give up first so may be cheaper and easier to find one for spares

Looks like there fixed with split tubes, a drift of the right size (cut a suitable nail) will be able to punch out these tubes, which you can save for refitting.
With the handles off you could make up a mould for which to repair them or buy the equivalent plastic ones like these - http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/3104...ff11=ICEP3.0.0&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=65&ff19=0
which are no way as good but will at least get you going...pinenot :)
