My kitchen ceiling consists of a single layer of plasterboard with an Artex random stipple finish (applied in 1991 so is safe). I need to do two distinct types of repair now.
1 I had to access cables from below in two places so I cut out two hatches each about 20cm x 10cm. In both cases I cut the hatches directly under a joist so that I could access the cables on both sides. I used a padsaw which left a kerf of about 1mm. What's the best way to refix these hatches and fill the saw gap? Will a single nail/screw into the joist be enough or do I need additional support for the free ends?
2 In addition, I also have to repair a 125mm dia. downlighter hole. In this case the electrical work consisted of moving the downlighter so I have a similar sized patch of ceiling from the downlighter's new location. The hole is between two joists so what's the best way to repair this one?
The ceiling will be repainted after this work is complete.
