Hi, I need to repair a seriously water marked ceiling after our cold water tank overflowed into the hall underneath. There are several 1 inch holes which were drilled to let the water out of the ceiling and lots of brown stains. The ceiling is made of plaster board and plaster. Can anyone advise on the best way to fill the holes and decorate over the stains?

Install new plasterboard.
Skim.
Apply decorative coating of your choice.
Submit bill to insurers.

Yep,,,, there's no other way if the plasterboard has been badly damaged by water.
