Our dog has had a go at the UPVC step to our back door and also the corner pieces of our conservatory!!!! It's not extensive damage but enough for me to threaten to send him to the kennells even though the kids and husband are crying about him rather than the door and conservatory!!!

Is it possible for the UPVC sill to be replaced or would the whole frame need to be changed and would the window sill on the conservatory be able to be replaced or is it a very BIG EXPENSIVE job?

You can replace the sill and it shouldn't cost that much for the materials.
The problem you have is you need to remove the windows/doors to do it which is a big job.

Well, in a similar vain to the above, this is what my dog has done...

Any suggestions on what to do?

It is a rented house, so need to get it repaired asap and as cheaply as possible.

I don't mind doing any of the work myself.

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

I have repaired one before using the upvc windowboards bedded on with gripfill, the next problem would be if there's any opening windows. You can buy sill covers, not sure where though.

That looks idential to what is on there now mate.

Are they difficult to remove? Will i need to take the whole window out to replace?

The first picture is under a non-opening window, and with the corner picture; the left handside is under a non-opening window, and the right goes under a window that does open. Although i may be able to get away with just replacing the parts under the windows that don't open.

Thanks for the reply.

Also, what company did you get that window sill information from? Have been looking on google but can't find anything.

Cheers.

So these would go over the existing external cill?

And hence the possible issue with opening windows?

A possibility though.

I'll ring round a few windows and conservatory places and see what they quote me, any ideas on a rough price to expect so i know if they are taking the p*ss?!

Cheers.

I think you have got 8" sill so you're looking around £35ish for a 5m length and the rest will be labour, I'm afraid it's a lot work to replace it. If it was me, I may get away with cutting it back to the frame carefully and plant new one butt up to it and re-seal it etc.

Another idea would be to repair with a suitable filler and if you can get hold of the plastic veneer to stick over it because that is all it is, a thin peel back which is heated on during the manufacture

Cheers for the response.

I guess it's a case of taking the windows out then if i were to do it all myself.

Do you have any idea at all where i might be able to get the thin veneer to go over the top?

Smoothing and filling the damage, and the placing a replacement top coat over the whole sill would be alot easier and something i wouldn't have any bother with. I could do all the sills on the conservatory to match so that would be the top choice.

If you know of anywhere then let us know.

Thanks again!

The problem would be you need a specialist tools

Just has another thought, buy the sill and carefully cut the top section out then you'll have your sill covers and make sure it will fit over the ex-sill, will need a lot of patient, the 45 degree angles won't be easy as it will need a neat joints unless you can cover it with a thin plastic strip

That's another opion i guess, might be quite tricky cutting the verticle bits that keep the box section togethe, could also be an issue getting them smoothed down enough to provide a flush finish on top of the original sill.

Shame no-one does sill covers on there own, must be a demand surely.

Have emailed a few companies today to see what they suggest, so should have an idea on the cost soon.

Thanks!

I've repaired the corners of UPVC cills before by cutting back the damaged area at 45 degrees and super glueing a shaped end cap over the area. It would be brown end caps in this instance.

Hope this helps

Nicksun.

Edit. Sorry, I thought the pictures were from you , thats why I said brown end caps.

pvcu can be repaired using the correct methods reputable glazing repair contrcators carry the right materials can be costly but still cheaper than removing frames tecnique simular to a french polisher usually very good results, its all about the right tools being in the right hands.
