Replace ceiling rose with led spots Notification requirements

Wall mounted. As an experiment I turned the lights up to the ceiling, the lighting was much better than when facing up and reflecting off ceiling than using the two lamps on ceiling shining down, that room has 5 lights, two spots on ceiling aimed at corners which would otherwise be dark, original centre ceiling and two spots on wall. Clearly with narrower beam spots could be ceiling mounted to read in bed, and with wider beam ceiling lights could be used for general lighting, however to my mind the problem with MR16 replacements is over 5 watt the surface is reduced to add cooling fins, and area of light is important as well as lumen output.

I was looking at using the robus dimmable 8.5w led fittings. But now I cant decide. Im also planning on putting corner spots in my living room but was thinking about allowing for upgrade capability to gu10 philips hue bulbs to give colour mood lighting in the future. Looks like the robus fittings are all integrated leds. Any recommendations?
Be it strips of LED lights, or spot lights, there is nothing wrong with mood lighting, however to my mind mood and standard lighting need to be switches where they can be used, in my kitchen I have under counter lights and cooker hob lights which are never used, the under counter lights were used when first fitted, then we simply did not want to walk across the room to switch them off, had the two sets of lights been switched from main switch with under counter two way, then likely they would be used.

My daughter has a flat in Turkey and their standard method is twin switches and lights in the living rooms so you can select which lights are used, and more important switch them off when leaving the room, and this gives three levels of lighting with two switches without any dimmers being required.

Much is what suits you, I have standard lamps and table lamps in my bedroom connected to a remote, I never use the ceiling light because I can't switch it off in bed, I have got use to using the remote, and with select between standard lamp and table lamp according to how much light I want. If I was stopping in this house I would change main light switch for one which I could control with a remote control.

One thing to consider is what you can do in the future, the guy who wired this house put two rooms, and stairs and hall all on one switch plate, it was like that years ago he just did it the same, however it means swapping switch for a special be it dimmer or remote control is now much harder, however when he wired upstairs he wired all bedrooms with triple and earth making it easy to convert to two way or add a neutral to switch.

I can see the reason for BAN's comments, my son fitted spots in kitchen all facing down could not aim them, 4 x 7W in a very small room and I had to use a torch to read display on his boiler, kitchen here is over twice the size and one single 28W 2D ceiling lights does better than sons lights even when wattage is the same and he has higher lumen. However would not want 2D lamps in living room.

For the living room i was planning this led fitting in the centre:

Then 1 downlight in each corner probably 500mm from the wall, maybe 750mm, need to do some maths. I googled "corner spot" and realised that wasnt quite what i meant. Total 3 switches so that each end of the room can be switched independently plus the centre one.

Yeah i see your point about 2d lights being functional. It just that they arent particularly aesthetic.

And yes 3 core and earth to each light switch is already on my list!

I don't see what overlapping shadows and flat roofs got to do with it, other than to provoke arguments and dissuade anyone who is new to this forum from asking a simple question?
Overlapping shadows can be an effect of multiple small light sources in the ceiling.

Recessing lights into a ceiling can be problematic, or even impossible, in a room with a flat roof.

Unlike you and, it seems, many others pitching in here, I think the responsible thing to do is to alert people to the existence of those issues even if they've not asked about them in case they are unaware of them.

I will not reply again to this topic, PM if you want an argument.
That's like ringing the bell and running away. If you don't want an argument, don't start one.

I made one post giving advice to the OP, and it did it in civil terms, without haranguing him, or saying anything that could dissuade him or others from asking questions, and so on. And I've made zero posts following that up arguing with him about his plans.

But multiple people have criticised me for that one post, and in doing so they have pretty much doubled the number of posts in this thread because they chose to argue with one post containing advice which might have been of value to the OP.

Because of your and your fellow travellers' behaviour one post which at worst was a waste of half a dozen lines of text has mushroomed into at least 8 posts of arguments.

And you have the gall to accuse me of provoking arguments and dissuading anyone who is new to this forum from asking a simple question.

I'm glad you won't be replying again here - try to maintain that silence the next time I try to be helpful and you find yourself for some deranged reason thinking that I should not have been.

You are the embodiment of "spam".
And you're the embodiment of not knowing what the words you use mean.

Funny thing is, if everyone complied with his rules there wouldn't be any electricity, because carrying out experiments to discover anything would be banned. Must be some sort of socialism at work.
