Replace filling loop

I need to replace a filling loop on an IDEAL Esprit 2 boiler.

I’ve used it tonight to fill the boiler up and noticed a leak on one of the taps. I have a towel wrapped around and a bucket underneath for now but I am going to replace it tomorrow.

I understand I need to turn the water main off but can I do it without draining the system?

Which tap is leaking ?
If it's the one on the cold mains end ,you don't need to drain the heating as the other valve doesn't need to be removed.
However, it looks like it's the valve on the heating side that's leaking and a drain down would be sensible.

Yes,that's what I thought. Drain down needed before removing that valve.

So do I turn the water off then put the bucket underneath and remove the valve and let the boiler drain then swap it and then repressure the boiler?

if you are just changing the one on the right drop the pressure to zero and you will be able to change it without having to drain whole system you will get a bit of a dribble as you do it

How do I just drain the boiler? Mad as it sounds I know how to drain the whole system because I did it to change a rad valve a few months ago.

Just slacken the nut and let it drain into a basin/bucket, when the dripping slows then change the valve over. It'll be a straight swap and only take a second. Then refill and bleed as/if required.

I’ve had a read and it’s a no to PTFE tape on the pressure gland is this confirmed. I don’t see any on the old one.
