Looking to replace light fitting at voth bottom of stairs and top of stairs. Both lights are operated by both... The bottom or/and top of stairs.

This is the existing.

How should i wire the new light, which has N / E /L

---- how i read it is...
- the existing neutral to N
- the existing switched live to L
- the line loop in connected together. In a box
- earth.

Yep, the live and neutral are loop in and out

it looks like a straight forward ceiling rose - with Live/neutral/earth in and then a loop out for live/neutral and earth to the next light fitting

then a cable live goes to the switch and a switched live returns

not sure i follow the 2 way switch - but if they are then the connections would be in the switch somehow
BUT for replacement - then as you suggest

looks like the ceiling rose for 2 lights are on seperate switched ???

Loop in a separate connector block.

And turn all lighting circuits off, landing circuits can have borrowed neutrals.

In the main, I use these

and replace the block connector inside the lamp, so have 4 connector blocks, not 3. The other method is to use a lighting junction box 1767532042006.png before the wire goes into the lamp. If not accessible latter there are maintenance free versions 1767532137871.png in both cases there is some strain relief on the cables, a bit of insulation tape is not acceptable.
