Just wondered if anyone can give me some advise on replacing my old wc, it has a waste pipe going into solid ground. The existing pipe is quite old and i want to replace as much of that as possible with new pipe.

1. Is it worth knocking out some of the cement and cutting the pipe below the ground?

2. Is there a way to use existing pipe using a pan connector, if so will it 'hide' the old pipe as i guess it will be pretty mingin' where i have had to cut into the old pipe.

any advice will be gratefully received.

Hi Rob..you might well find that once you remove the WC the existing pan connector will wriggle free when forced. Once its out, plug the foul outlet and chip away mortar CAREFULLY, or drill into it to break it up, as not to damage erthenware pipe (unless its plastic.)

Be aware that the WC you have now will be low level? If you buy a close couple WC, even with a new swan neck pan connector, it will most likely sit 3" away from wall, which means you will need to put a bit of 3"x2" to support cistern (looks ok if you tile the 3"x2")

If you dont want the hastle, buy a low level WC.

Thanks for the quick reply...I was thinking about putting in a new close coupled wc and dont mind building a support at the back...

I was wondering if you know how deep the pan connector might go ( just so i know roughly how much concrete i need to chip away.

If i do break the existing pipe then i guess i need to get dig up most of the floor.
