I have had to replace a florescent light fitting in my kitchen, I have 3 red wires, 3 black wires and 3 earth wires. The wiring seems to be completely different to the fitting that was there before.I have the 3 red wires together in a connector and then 2 of the black wires together in a connector with the other black wire in a separate connector. On the body of the fitting there are the connectors for the LIVE, Neutral and Earth, but there is a link in (factory fitted) connecting the Live and the Neutral. I have had the fitting working but somehow it has bypass the On switch. Can anyone help with how I can wire the fitting so it goes via the On switch please, and also should I take out the link in.

Thanks Colboy

it would seem you have wired it wrong.

leave the 3 reds in their connector block, the two blacks go to the neutral , the one single black should go to the live

and the earths to the earth terminal

Factory fitted link across L & N?????

Is this a capacitor?

ishould suspect it is, otherwise we would have heard the bang
