replaceing a wooden fence

Hi
I was thinking of replaceing wooden panels with a Block wall i had seen a neighbour years ago do this with a yellow block measuring 12 x 8 inches are these still available?
Or woood it be cheaper to use bricks
Any good reasonable brickies in the Hertfoed area?
