I’ve replaced an old integrated washing machine and naively assumes that door hinges are a standard width apart. I did anticipate having to increase/decrease the height of the machine - using the feet.

I think these holes will need to be re-drilled?

I’ve never done this and could do with some of your guidance please. I have also got a plinth that runs across the bottom.

should I for instance leave the machine at current height or increase this before drilling new holes? Assuming new holes are necessary.

Please let me know if you need any further info or pictures.

Thanks in advance.

Not really a drilling job as you risk going through the door as most wide/flat drill bits have a point on the end

Router would be your best bet if you have one to make holes in the right place. If no router, you could chisel out a round hole as best you can then apply some evostick to fill any gaps once the hinges are in.

Get the machine to the height your happy with and so the plinth fits before marking up the door

The plinth can go in at the current height of the machine. Do I still raise the machine higher as there is plenty of space as per picture?

Does the new hole need to be inset the same amount from the edge as the current holes?

The new hole will overlap with some of the current hole. I assume that will need to be filled in some way?

Thanks for your help

I would keep machine as low as possible for stability.Hole same distance from edge as current .If doors are plain turn upside down to use opposite edge.

Can the washing machine height be adjusted so that the original bottom hole would be correct? It'll probably make a mess of the door if you try to overlap the holes.

In this picture the machine is at the lowest position and you can see where the door ends up when trying to align the current holes. I think I will need new holes but there will be some overlap with existing holes.

The door has a design and can’t be flipped over.
I thought that increasing the machine height to a mid point will give me flexibility to align the door when fitting it.

The tool foxhole has suggested is correct, but will be very difficult to use in your case with the partial holes there already

If you can cut a disc of mdf to fill the current hole it would help , but drilling near it should not be a problem as the bit follows the centre .

On height, is there no benefit in raising the height slightly so I have some play in case I need to move the machine lower to align the doors?
Currently, the machine is sat at the lowest level.

Hi All,

I was hoping for some confirmation on the above before I embark on this door fitting project. Wrongly perhaps - I was thinking that if the machine wasn't at its lowest level, it will give me some wriggle room to align the door.
Also, am I okay to put some MDF in the existing holes and use a 2 part filler before cutting out the new holes?

I'd appreciate your support with this. Thanks

UPDATE: Made these adjustments today. The Ronseal 2 Part filler worked well and was ready to cut into it within an hour. I used the hinge cutter recommended on this forum.
I was very diligent in my measurements as there isn’t much room for error. There’s hardly any vertical adjustment on the machine hinges but there is some horizontal.
Thanks again for all the help.
