Replacement oil boiler

Hello chaps

Just a quick question about an oil boiler replacement. I have an existing elderly Potterton oil fired boiler in the kitchen and basically in the middle of the house. It has a single wall flex stainless steel flue pipe that runs up inside a brick chimney. I want to replace the boiler at the same location.

So, my question – is it possible to install a replacement condensing boiler using the existing brick chimney? I mean my understanding for conventional chimneys is that you need a lot of heat going into the flue in order to ensure that products of combustion are purged. How does that work if all the heat is extracted by the heat exchangers?

Yes it's possible to line a existing flue with a flexible liner.
For example look at Grant's ez orange system.
We tend to avoid doing them, the flue systems tend to be expensive to install especially if scaffolding needed to access chimney.

Definitely possible with some manufacturers, you'll need a new flue liner though. Hounsfield & EOGB both work with flue liners. Be aware that you'll need somewhere to drain the condensate to
