I need to replace a leaking stopcock where there is no movement whatsoever in the pipe, either up or down.

There are slip couplings availlable to solder onto copper where there is restricted movement in the pipe, but I am just guessing it could be used as I dont know your set up. Like as been said already could you post a picture.
