Replacing a 'thingy' with proper wall plug sockets?

You can see two power supply cables (cooker hood and fan heater) going into that wall (socket?) thingy.

Is it possible to remove this ‘thingy' and replace it with a standard (double) socket so that the heater and cooker hood could be plugged in separately with their own plugs?
 
Another possibility is a pattress box such as (link):

and then use whatever double socket you like.

However you need to be very careful about the current cables. Which is the supply and which is the load? The white cable is wrong, you should only be able to see the outer sheath (not the individual wires).

Others may well give better advice (I'm not an electrician).
 
Observing the E pulls out last is a good idea
Making the lives pull out first in case of cord grip failure. Ideally Line first the N a very close second then the E as late as possible
 
Do it properly, chop out the plaster and put in a double pattress and socket
 
Yes indeed doing it properly if you can is the best option but if not the converts is worth considering
