Replacing exposed shower set

I'd like to replace the exposed shower set that we have with a 2 outlet set, but I don't want to have to change the tiles.

I've been looking at the Grohe ones and the inlets seem to be on a 150mm centre, which is the same as the one I have, and the Grohe ones have a movable support for the upright.

But the dimensions show the upright as 1106mm (and it's similar on the Villeroy and Boch). I only have 890mm max for the upright, or I'd have to move the inlets.

Is this a fixed amount or do I cut the vertical pipe to the shower head to the required length?

I bought a cheap set from Screwfix to replace my Mita which im pleased with.
I cut the vertical post so that the fixings matched the holes in tiles...

Is that what you are taking about?

Yes that's what I mean. Do you think it's normal to cut the vertical pipe to the desired length?

It's not just a post, it's the pipe carrying the water to the shower head

Mine was just the riser bar.
Money was tight at the time.
If I was to replace now I'd just get the original Mira and fit.

Can you not get a direct replacement?

Most I've seen can be cut to suit, some come with a preformed end which can't. Just check that, but likely to be ok.

Some come telescopic so no need to cut
