Hi all. I'm looking to replace a Flomasta 4718G with a smart thermostat, but a little confused as all the options readily available have dry contacts as a signal, yet the Flomasta 4718G has a Live/Com and a grey "call for heat". Are they compatible? Sorry for being dumb, a little confused with the terminology of the call for heat although assume it is 230v sent down the wire to operate a switch in the boiler. I get the dry contact is just a relay-operated switch so would the Live/Com just be switched to send this 230v down the call for heat on a dry contact (4718G manual https://www.free-instruction-manuals.com/pdf/pa_1410989.pdf)

Yes, dry/volt free are basically the same - these do not supply any voltage output, it is applied and sent out. This means that voltage could be whatever is supplied onto those contacts making them suitable for example 24v or 230v.

The Com and call for heat are volt free contacts, some thermostats are not volt free, so it depends on what you are replacing it with. Often you see a link between L and 1 which means it does not need volt free.

I am not sure what you see as smart.

Thankyou for the responses, smart was a loose term. Basically something that could be controlled as such by phone. The current FloMaster is horrible, chugs through batteries, and is a pain to set up. Basically, thinking something cheap like the following

That seems like it will work

So basically put the black wire and grey call for heat wire from the flowmaster into the dry contact terminals and I should be sorted? Just double checking as I am for the hard of thinking. Thank you
