Replacing Honeywell thermostat

Yes. If you leave wires disconnected at both ends then voltage will be induced into them. If you leave them connected to earth / neutral as they currently are, any induced voltage will be harmlessly drained away.

It is an electrical regulation that all unused cores of a multicore cable are connected to earth.
 
Yes. If you can, it's also best to disconnect these 2 wires at the other end too. More than likely it will be in the wiring centre/junction box.

It's best to leave them CONNECTED :wink:

Thought I was being conscientious. Must admit, I usually just cut the ends off and tape them up at the stat end.
